Around General Luna
1. Secret Beach
About 15 minutes from General Luna along Malinao Road, Secret Beach sits quietly at the end of the road. It's good for a sunset swim even at low tide. The water stays accessible when other spots don't. Park at the end of the road and follow the short path through the coconut palms down to the shore. Fewer people than most spots this close to GL, and a calm atmosphere that earns its name.
2. Malinao Skate Road
The most popular sunset spot in the area, and it shows. On the road to Secret Beach, this stretch draws locals, families, and travelers all converging at the same hour. Small stalls selling drinks, food, and local crafts line the way. If you want energy and company, this is the place. If you want quiet, go earlier or go elsewhere.
3. Catangnan Bridge
This used to be the main gathering point for sunset before skating was no longer allowed on the bridge itself. It's quieter now, which is actually a reason to go. The view over the water holds up, and just before the bridge there's a bar with an easy, unhurried feel. Worth pairing the two.
4. Pop Up Bar, Cloud 9
A small bar at the Cloud 9 area with live music every night. The setting is relaxed, the crowd is a mix of surfers and travelers, and the light on the water at that time of day is hard to complain about. Good if you want a drink with your sunset and some atmosphere around you.
Further on the Island
5. Ocean 9 Beach
About 15 minutes from General Luna, this is one of the quieter options within easy reach. There's a bar on the beach for a cold drink, not much else, which is the point. The beach is calm, the company is sparse, and the sunset comes in without competition.
6. Coconut Road View Deck
30 minutes from General Luna, this is the view that ends up on everyone's camera roll: a sea of coconut palms running unbroken to the horizon, with the hills behind catching the last of the light. The view deck is free, which feels almost unfair. This one is inland rather than over the water, so you get color and calm rather than a sun-into-the-sea moment and, on a clear evening, it is hard to top.
7. Pacifico Beach
About an hour and a half from General Luna, Pacifico is a quiet town in the north with its own unhurried energy. The beach is long, the sunsets are wide open, and there are almost none of the crowds you'll find further south.
8. The Uphill Road Between Pacifico and Burgos
On the road from Pacifico towards Burgos, the main road climbs upward and opens onto a viewpoint over Pacifico bay and the ocean beyond. No signage, no facilities, just the road, the view, and the light dropping behind the water. Stop, take your photos, breathe it in.
9. Tangbo Beach
Further north, past Pacifico, Tangbo is one of those beaches that feels genuinely untouched. Fishing boats at anchor, endless palm trees, unobstructed horizon. There is a small shop on the beach selling beers and drinks. The sunsets are among the best on the island.
10. The Del Carmen Mangrove Wharf
On the west coast, before the old town of Del Carmen, a small wharf sits at the edge of one of the largest mangrove systems in the Philippines. The light here at sunset is different. Softer, more diffused, reflecting off still water through the trees. A local with a small outrigger boat may offer to take you out through the mangroves as the sun goes down. Say yes.
